The City of Choice is the place to be this April
With the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships in full swing down at Scarborough and Trigg beaches, the final Perth Glory home game at Macedonia Park this weekend and both the BMX National Series events and WA Tree Festival coming up in a few short weeks' time, the City of Choice is the place to be this April.
At our last Council meeting the City confirmed sponsorship of $120,000 to host the 2023 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships this December - locking in another major event for next summer.
With the ICF Championships having been held in Tahiti (2015), Hong Kong (2017), France (2019), Spain (2021) and Portugal (2022), holding the event in Scarborough next is further proof that the $100 million redeveloped foreshore continues to provide a suitable venue for some of the largest events in the world.
This weekend will see the end to a summer season of top-class Perth Glory home games played at Macedonia Park in Balcatta, and I hope we send the Glory off with thunderous applause - as well as generosity.
The City, Stirling Macedonia Football Club and Perth Glory Football Club are teaming up with Foodbank WA to call on residents and club supporters to give generously to the ‘Let’s Feed Change’ appeal, and you can bring your donations to the game.
There are several projects and initiatives that you can get engaged with this month too - such as the Carine Community Parkland Upgrade project and the Central Avenue/Clifton Crescent intersection options - which will help you get further invested in your local community.
And with school holidays fast approaching, we have events like the Inglewood Creature Trail and the WA Tree Festival for young children and families.
Our commitment to bringing a greater 'local focus' to the things we do will also be on display in your letterboxes this week, with a Ward-specific brochure heading your way.
These brochures have been designed to be something physical you can keep on the fridge or coffee table, with helpful facts and contact details as well as local project updates to help you get more involved in your local area.
And finally, we were pleased to see the long-running Summer X Salt Markets win the prestigious title of ‘National Best Small Event’ at the Australian Event Awards. The markets have grown from strength to strength, and bring a positive energy to the City of Stirling community.
