Local Government Procurement - Office of the Auditor General
During 2018, the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) undertook a performance audit of Local Government Procurement, with the objective of the review to determine if local governments had effective procurement arrangements in place. The outcome of the review was tabled in Parliament on 11 October 2018.
The OAG’s report requires all local governments to review their policies, processes and controls against the eight focus areas of the audit. As the City was one of the eight local governments included in the review, this has been undertaken through the audit with the OAG providing findings, rated minor and moderate, to the City. These findings have been addressed through: reinforcing the City’s processes with employees, providing clearer wording with regards to a delegation and including a planned review date on all City policies. All actions have been noted by the City’s Audit Committee and Council.
While the findings have reassured the City that we are on the right track with regards to procurement practices, we are always looking for ways to strengthen our processes and welcome the results of the review.
