City swears in new Councillors and Deputy Mayor

20 October 2021

Following Saturday’s 2021 Local Government Election, the City of Stirling last night held an official swearing-in ceremony for new and re-elected Councillors.

Mayor Mark Irwin welcomed the 40th City of Stirling Council and thanked Councillors for putting their hands up to serve each of the City’s seven wards.

“Democracy isn’t a spectator sport, and this is even especially relevant in local government, so it is no small thing to celebrate having heard the voice of the people and to welcome their chosen representatives,” he said.

“I congratulate Cr Andrea Creado of the Balga Ward, Cr Tony Krsticevic of the Coastal Ward and Cr Teresa Olow of the Osborne Ward on their election to Council, and I congratulate Cr Elizabeth Re of the Doubleview Ward, Cr Karlo Perkov of Hamersley Ward, Cr Bianca Sandri of the Inglewood Ward and Cr Suzanne Migdale of the Lawley Ward on their re-elections.

“I also am pleased to announce that Cr Stephanie Proud JP has been elected by their peers as the new Deputy Mayor for the City of Stirling. I know Cr Bianca Sandri would wish the new Deputy Mayor the very best as they take up her mantle.

“Cr Proud has been on Council since 2007 and has lived in the City of Stirling since 1993, representing the local community on various issues since 1998 through community organisations, schools and local action and reference groups. I look forward to working with her to lead Council.

“Cr Bianca Sandri is a fierce advocate for the Inglewood Ward and she has brought this passion and energy to her role as Deputy Mayor, so I am deeply grateful for her service and all she has contributed over the past two years.”

Councillors participated in a series of inductions and briefings on Monday 18 October, including a Councillor Expo to begin the process of informing Councillors of the activities of the City, upcoming projects and the governance obligations that come with their role.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 26 October to elect Councillors to the various internal committees such as Audit and Risk, Planning and Development, and Community and Resources, as well as external committees such as the Tamala Park Regional Council and Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP).
