COVID-19 update – community cases in Perth

28 June 2021

Following news of a recent community case in Western Australia (linked with a case in New South Wales), the Western Australian Government announced yesterday that new restrictions are in place for the Perth and Peel region from 12.00pm Sunday 27 June for a minimum of three days.

These restrictions include:

  • Masks are to be worn indoors, on public transport, and outdoors where physical distancing is not possible (primary school aged children and those who are exempt are not required to wear face masks)
  • Public events that cannot be restricted to 150 people will be cancelled or played without spectators
  • A 30-person limit for visitors to private homes
  • A maximum of 150 people at weddings and funerals
  • A limit of four personal visitors per resident or patient at hospitals and aged care and disability care facilities
  • Community sport is permitted
  • Anyone who enters a regional area from the Perth-Peel region is required to wear a face mask as per requirements in Perth-Peel, and travel should be minimised. Travel to remote Aboriginal communities will be restricted.

The following businesses may open but with a 2m2 capacity rule and a 150 patron limit will apply:

  • Hospitality, entertainment venues (including casino and nightclubs), retail, beauty/hairdressers, recreation centres (including gyms, pilates, yoga, dance and swimming pools) and places of worship.

The following City of Stirling facilities remain open as per their usual hours with face masks now mandatory, and patron counting will be in place to ensure capacity limits of 150 and 2m2 per person:

  • All Stirling Libraries
  • All City of Stirling recreation and leisure facilities
  • City of Stirling Community Centres
  • The Recycling Centre Balcatta
  • Containers for Change Refund Centre.

Please stay home and do not attend any of these facilities if you are unwell. The community is encouraged to monitor the Healthy WA website regularly for updates, including for any new exposure sites (see below for further information).

Today’s announcement by the Premier has confirmed a second community case on Monday 28 June, and the community is encouraged to be vigilant and to continue checking exposure locations. These will be updated on the Healthy WA website as contact tracing continues.

Learn to Swim will continue at Scarborough Beach Pool for the next two days due to lower patronage numbers.

Spin classes are cancelled for the next two days at Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre, with further updates to follow this week, pending further State Government advice. Group fitness is still operating across Stirling Leisure Centres (Scarborough Leisure Centre, Scarborough Beach Pool, Leisurepark Balga and Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre) with face masks to be worn, 2m2 per person and class number limitations.

The City is aware of external event organisers who are due to hold events from Friday 2 July – Monday 5 July and we have communicated with them to reiterate State Government advice in place and requested they advise the City of any postponements or cancellations in the coming days.

The City will continue to monitor the unfolding situation, including any updates from the State Government. In the meantime, the community is encouraged to follow all State Government requirements and take extra care to practice good hygiene and social distancing and use the mandatory contact registers or Safe WA app at all businesses and facilities.
