COVID-19 update - Community case in Perth

27 June 2021

Following news of a recent community case in Western Australia (linked with a case in New South Wales), the Western Australian Government has announced new restrictions are in place for the Perth and Peel region from 12.00pm today for a minimum of three days.

These restrictions include:

  • Mandatory face mask wearing indoors, on public transport, and outdoors where physical distancing is not possible, primary school aged children and those who are exempt are not required to wear face masks
  • Public events that cannot be restricted to 150 people will be cancelled or played without spectators today
  • 30-person limit in all homes for private gatherings
  • Hospitality, entertainment venues (including casino and nightclubs), retail, beauty/hairdressers, recreation centres (including gyms, pilates, yoga, dance and swimming pools) and places of worship can remain open, but must comply with the 2m2 rule, with a maximum of 150 patrons
  • Community sport is permitted
  • Wedding and funerals can also proceed but will be limited to a maximum of 150 attendees
  • Hospitals will have a maximum of four personal visitors permitted per patient per day – face masks will be mandatory for staff and visitors
  • Anyone who enters a regional area from the Perth-Peel region is required to wear a face mask as per requirements in Perth-Peel, and travel should be minimised. Travel to remote Aboriginal communities will be restricted.

In addition to the above, a location within the City of Stirling has been added to the list of public exposure sites.

Anyone who visited IKEA (6 Sunray Drive off Ellen Stirling Boulevard, Innaloo) from 12.00pm - 2.00pm on Tuesday 22 June 2021, must get tested immediately and isolate until a negative result is returned.

A full list of sites is available on the Healthy WA website and we encourage the community to continue to check this page for updates and ensure you get tested if you have visited any exposure sites.

The following City of Stirling facilities remain open as per their usual hours with face masks now mandatory, and patron counting will be in place to ensure capacity limits of 150 and 2m2 per person:

  • All Stirling Libraries
  • All City of Stirling recreation and leisure facilities
  • City of Stirling Community Centres
  • The Recycling Centre Balcatta
  • Containers for Change Refund Centre.

Please stay home and do not attend any of these facilities if you are unwell. The community is encouraged to monitor the Healthy WA website regularly for updates, including any new exposure sites.

To meet capacity restrictions, Learn to Swim at Stirling Leisure Centres - Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre and Leisurepark Balga is cancelled for the morning of Monday 28 June 2021. A decision on Learn to Swim from tomorrow afternoon onwards will be made and communicated with impacted patrons tomorrow morning.

We will advise of any further impacts to high patronage facilities, programs and other City services (including group fitness) tomorrow, pending further State Government advice.

The City will continue to monitor the unfolding situation, including any updates from the State Government.
