Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley is now home to some fresh street furniture and the City is calling on the community to share its thoughts on the latest additions to the much-loved town centre precinct.
As part of a three-month trial that started in December, the City has added new street furniture to Beaufort Street – not far from The Astor Theatre – that includes a circular planter, a bench planter and a bike rack.
The two planter boxes offer extra greenery to an area of Beaufort Street unable to accommodate trees due to underground services or overhead shop awnings being in place.
Designed, built and installed by Respoke, these new additions form part of the Mount Lawley Streetscape Study Implementation Plan adopted by Council earlier this year.
Mayor Mark Irwin said the plan aimed to highlight the significant cultural and heritage value of the Mount Lawley town centre, attract more visitors and importantly, support local businesses.
“Ongoing improvements such as the new street furniture add to the town centre’s enduring appeal and hope to encourage more people to pay a visit to local shops and eateries,” Mayor Irwin said.
“To make sure we meet the community’s needs, we hope everyone will now provide their thoughts on these latest improvements and how we can continue making a great part of the City even better.”
The community and local businesses are being encouraged to have a say on the new amenities being trialled by taking a short survey
If the trial proves successful, additional planters, benches and bike racks will be installed in more locations along Beaufort Street in the future.
These latest enhancements follow on from the City planting more than a dozen trees around the town centre earlier this year.
