Hamersley Public Golf Course Redevelopment

01 September 2020

The City of Stirling is seeking feedback on the concept plan for redevelopment of the Hamersley Public Golf Course (HPGC).

This includes a major refurbishment of the golf pavilion and a two-level automated driving range.

Opened in 1968, the 18-hole course included the existing pro shop building, caretaker residence and golf maintenance facilities, with the Gleneagles Tavern function centre added in 1983.

Despite limited capital upgrades to the buildings in the past 50 years, the City has continuously maintained the course to a high standard and it is considered one of the best public golf courses in Western Australia.

The redevelopment project aims to enhance the golfing experience, including:

  • Reconfiguring the golf pavilion with a modern, open and flexible design
  • Upgrading the golf pavilion to include a new café/kiosk, alfresco area, toilets, golf simulators, pro shop and administration
  • Upgrading  the existing carpark including additional bays and improved access/egress from Marmion Avenue
  • Improving paths and wayfinding for better movement between the golf pavilion, car park, course and driving range
  • Minor course improvements including additional bunkers at certain holes and upgrading the practice greens where required
  • A nature playground.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the City was keen to engage the golfing and non-golfing community on how the facility can best meet community needs.

“This concept has been guided by design principles to create a destination, improve access and movement, improve golf course surveillance, and achieve a better golf concourse and entry,” he said.

“It’s a really popular golf course and we undertake course renovations twice annually but the buildings don’t currently meet the contemporary golf course standards or patron and community expectations.”

Part of the redevelopment plan is to include a two-level automated driving range at the existing location, which remains subject to Council approval and funding availability.

The driving range would allow for use of ball tracking technology to enhance the golf driving range experience, with dedicated bays for tuition and coaching.
