Colour your own mural at home

08 May 2020

Some of the City’s best-loved murals have been transformed into colouring-in pages for the community to enjoy.

The City’s Arts and Activation team recently put the call out to artists who have crafted some of our most eye-catching works to reproduce them as black and white illustrations.

Artist Peta Roebuck recently adapted an original sketch of the mural she created for the Mirrabooka Hub into an illustration so others could put a ‘fresh take’ on the work.

“It’s such a good idea (the illustrations), as I had people from the community wanting to help me paint the mural when I did it in 2018, and now there’s an opportunity for everyone to colour it themselves,” Ms Roebuck said. “I’m very interested to see the different interpretations of it.”

Illustrations of familiar murals by fellow artists Kerise Delcoure (Carine Regional Open Space) and Paul Deej (Dianella Library) are also now available for download via www.stirling.wa.gov.au/art-collection

Stunning works by Melski (Osborne Hub), Yok & Sheryo (Westside BMX in Balcatta), George Domahidy (Scarborough Police Station) and Rebecca Cool (Osborne Hub) will be available as colouring-in pages over the next few weeks.

Mayor Mark Irwin said with families currently spending more time at home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the illustrations provided a fun outlet for kids as well as adults.

“It’s another way of showcasing these very talented artists and their vibrant artworks out there in the community,” Mayor Irwin said.

“Colouring-in can be enjoyed by pretty much everyone and it has experienced a revival amongst adults in recent years, offering a break from screens and a creative way to relax.”

Along with giving the artists a bit more exposure, the City-commissioned illustrations will also provide them with a small income in an economically challenging time.

To exhibit your colouring-in prowess to the world, add your finished works to social media and tag the City with @cityofstirlingwa #artandaboutstirling #stirlingspirit as we would love to see the results.
