Be part of the new Inglewood mega mural

02 July 2020

A painting day will give the community an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new 50m wide art mural in the heart of Inglewood.

Another fantastic idea from the Inglewood on Beaufort community group, the mega mural at the corner of Beaufort Street and Eighth Avenue will brighten up some blank panelling in place while a new Woolworths store takes shape at the location.

Perth artist Mikaela Miller has created a stunning ‘We Love Inglewood’ design featuring local flora to add more vibrancy to the popular Beaufort Street strip until the new store opens early next year.

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the cultural and economic futures of Inglewood looked incredibly bright with so many creative projects happening in the suburb and Beaufort Street all set to become home to new Woolworths and Aldi stores.

“A big part of the ongoing Inglewood renaissance is thanks to the Inglewood on Beaufort community group, which has introduced lots of engaging projects such as the Monday Night Markets, Inglenooks and now this large scale mural,” Mayor Mark Irwin said.

“The mural is a brilliant opportunity to be part of a project that adds more colour to the area, and also supports the arts community.”

Weather permitting, the painting day will be held at 861 Beaufort Street, Inglewood.

  • Sunday 5 July 2020 - 11am to 3pm

Inglewood on Beaufort Vice Chair Ben Kent encouraged as many people as possible to come along, pick up a paintbrush and help transform the sizeable blank canvas.

“We have held a couple of community painting sessions before and the response has been great, as it’s a nice, creative way to bring people together,” Mr Kent said.

“When construction of the new store on this site is finished, we plan to relocate the mural a bit further down Beaufort Street, so it will live on.”

For everyone attending the painting day, please wear old clothes, shoes and a hat, slap on some sunscreen and bring along a face mask if needed.

In line with physical distancing guidelines, event organisers will allow adequate spacing between all budding and professional artists who take part.

The exciting project is co-funded by the Inglewood on Beaufort, the City of Stirling and Woolworths.

The design will include lettering and colourful florals.
