A sentiment shared by many Mount Lawley community members is that the intersection of Clifton Crescent and Queens Crescent is unnecessarily unsafe with the current usage of 'Give Way' signs. This intersection, used daily by many Mount Lawley residents as they commute and travel, has been the site of many near misses and collisions, including a recent car accident on 3 April 2019, which directly inspired this petition. The wide and deceivingly un-busy nature of the streets leading up to it means that drivers often pass through the intersection at a higher speed and lower awareness level than is safe, especially in the evening or nighttime. Changing the 'Give Way' signs at this intersection to 'Stop' signs is an effective way to improve the safety of driving in the area, and reduce risk of harm to drivers and pedestrians. There would be little disadvantage - traffic flow and travel times would be barely affected, as many drivers already slow to a halt to feel safe before crossing the intersection. Please consider implementing this change, to help minimise the risk to road users and local residents.
