We, the undersigned, respectfully advise that the Mount Lawley Society approached the City of Stirling in June 2018 about the 167m2 vacancy at the Inglewood Civic Centre as a possible solution for finding the Society a home. We currently occupy a 3m2 basement beneath a commercial kitchen. The 167m2 vacancy at the Civic Centre has just clocked up more than six months of vacancy and the City is still considering our request. Hiving off circa 50m2 for the Society would improve the 'lettability' of the remaining space as small tenancies always let quicker than larger ones and can command a higher rate. The Mount Lawley Society probably has more members than the average of any other club in the City with more than 300 households (not including occupants). The Mount Lawley Society is probably, in combination, the largest club in membership and the longest running (41 years) without a home in the City of Stirling. There is a Council resolution to find us a home. Further, there wouldn’t be an Inglewood Civic Centre in the City of Stirling without the Society because of our unsolicited campaigning to stay in the City of Stirling against the previous State Government's push for Council amalgamations. No other club or group has consistently fought for the City of Stirling like the Mount Lawley Society. Maylands, Subiaco, Guildford and Fremantle historical societies all have a home. The Society is a member of the History Council of WA and out of all of the historical societies, we punch above our weight. The Mount Lawley Society won best historical society in the State a few years ago from the State Government. The Society has many historical documents and records but our Members cannot access them. The Society just needs a home, the Civic Centre would be perfect, next to the Inglewood Library. Please support the Mount Lawley Society by signing this ePetition.
