Multicultural Framework
Stirling Multicultural Advisory Network
The Stirling Multicultural Advisory Network (SMAN) aims to actively support the City’s Multicultural Framework development, including the implementation of actions, tracking, progress and reporting. Members are passionate about promoting cultural diversity and meet regularly to provide advice to the City on issues relating to people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) backgrounds.

Funded by the Department of Home Affairs, the Mirrabooka Multicultural Centre (MMC) aims to support newly arrived families in Australia.
The centre offers a range of education workshops, mentoring programs and unique facilities such as:
- A function space suitable for up to 150 people that can be hired for special occasions
- A large catering style kitchen with two ovens, two fridges, extensive bench space, bain-maries and dishwashing facilities
- Three separate spaces suitable for training, seminars or small functions
- An extensive crèche space including playground, outdoor area, well-equipped kitchen and toilets which can be hired for children’s birthdays, activities, playgroups and childcare organisations
- Private rooms for hire which are suitable for community and business meetings and includes free Wi-Fi and the option to hire an overhead projector.

Interpreting and translating services
Interpreting and translating services are available to our non-English speaking residents via the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS). The service provides language interpreting in 160 languages for government agencies, not-for-profit organisations and businesses.

Department of Home Affairs
The Department of Home Affairs provides free translating services for people settling permanently in Australia, and to those enrolled in the adult migrant English program (AMEP). For more information, please phone the DSS on 1800 962 100.
