The City of Stirling is committed to building the future our community deserves. There is so much to love about our City - from our close proximity to the Perth CBD, vibrant cultural and entertainment precincts and pristine coastline, to our natural areas and enviable lifestyle. Stirling is truly a place of opportunity.

To ensure we’re strategic and intentional about our shared future, the City is undertaking a major review of our Strategic Community Plan (Sustainable Stirling 2022 – 2032).

Future Stirling is your opportunity to get involved in meaningful, two-way conversations about what you want Council to focus on over the coming decade.

Your Future, Our Focus Community Workshops

In this next phase, the City will determine its focus areas for the next decade by working with our community through a series of Community Workshops.

The first phase of Future Stirling involved engaging widely and listening deeply to diverse perspectives, concerns, and advice. More than 1,600 individuals participated in a survey, supported by more than 70 community and business pop-ups, DIY club convos, and a schools storytelling competition.

From this, we heard that the key areas our community wants us to focus on are transport and connectivity, housing diversity and liveability of neighbourhoods, enhancing community safety, future-proofing amenities and facilities, supporting events that connect the community, and conserving and protecting our environment.

The Your Future, Our Focus Community Workshops will involve refining these ideas to make our community an even better place to live, work, or belong in the future.

Join us in the next phase of the conversation. Everyone is welcome!

To celebrate the launch of the next phase, everyone is invited to a special event on Monday 17 November from 4.00pm to 5.00pm at the Reception Hall, Administration Centre, 25 Cedric Street, Stirling.

This event will feature Nyoongar storytelling, dance, and connection to Country, alongside a showcase of hundreds of student entries from the Nature Stories Schools Competition.

The first community workshop will begin immediately after the launch.

Future Stirling Phase Two with Mayor Mark Irwin

Phase one: share your future

The focus of this phase from July to September is all about listening – gathering insights, identifying emerging priorities, and understanding what Council should focus on to build the future our community deserves.

There are no facts from the future - that's why we need your help.

Thank you to the 1,604 individuals who completed the Future Insights Survey. Your insights have helped identify, what matters most and what Council shouls focus on over the coming decade to make our City an even better place to live, work or belong.

Your advice has helped guide the review of the Strategic Community Plan. To find out more about what we heard from 23 July to 4 September 2025, view the Future Stirling Phase One Outcomes.

We visited a place near you!

Whether you had a minute for a quick chat or wanted to share your big ideas for the future, thank you for taking the time to connect with a City Officer, across one of the 68 pop-ups.

During August and September, we also brought the future to your doorstep - doorknocking over 700 homes, one street in each of the City's 30 suburbs.

Thank you to every busienss that joined us for a bold blend of networking, ideas sharing and future-focused discussions.

Business Brews was an opportunity to build connections, chat about business issues, and identify priorities for businesses to thrive over the coming decade.

Feedback from Business Brews fed directly into the Future Insights Survey and will help inform what Council should focus on over the coming decade.

Community groups and clubs are the heart of Stirling - places where people connect, belong, and thrive.

11 clubs across the City hosted a Club Convo, with a total of 89 participants sharing what Council should focus on over the coming decade.

Step 1: Ask these three questions at your next meeting
  1. What would make our community an even better place to live, work, or belong in the future?
  2. What do we need to focus on over the coming decade to unlock the future you see?
  3. What's one piece of advice you have to guide the development of the City's Strategic Community Plan?
Step 2: Capture your club's responses
Step 3: Share your feedback via the Club Convos Submission Form

Explore your neighbourhood through nature’s lens!

The Nature Stories Schools Competition invites students to explore how our everyday actions shape the future of trees, wildlife and water.

Through creative stories or illustrations, primary and secondary classes can step into the shoes (or wings) of Quincy the Quenda, Taylor the Tuart Tree, Buzzby the Bee, Wyatt the Water Drop, or create a nature persona of their own!

Winning classes will score an unforgettable nature experience for their school. Download your Nature Stories Schools Competition Pack today!

As part of Future Stirling, join us in honouring the rich traditions of the Nyoongar people through a series of vibrant community events celebrating the Six Seasons: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba, and Kambarang. Each gathering will offer a unique opportunity to connect with country and experience the cultural knowledge that has guided sustainable living on this land for tens of thousands of years. Let’s come together to honour each season, reflect on the past, and build a future grounded in cultural respect and connection.

Phase two: define our focus

This phase explores survey responses and community feedback through targeted conversations and workshops in November to define our focus. Together, we’ll explore what we heard during focus phase one to shape a shared long-term vision that will guide the final stage and development of the City of Stirling’s Strategic Community Plan.

Hosted throughout November, a series of targeted workshops will build on insights from the Future Insights Survey to deepen our understanding of what matters most to our community.

We're extending the invitation to all community members to help ensure our direction aligns with aspirations and priorities.

Each workshop will spotlight the key themes from the Strategic Community Plan to help refine the outcomes, objectives, and strategies to make our community an even better place to live, work, or belong in the future:

  • Our Community
  • Our Economy
  • Our Built Environment
  • Our Natural Environment
  • Our Leadership.

Watch the videos below to explore each key result area of our Strategic Community Plan, what we've heard from the community so far, and what will be refined through the workshops.

Phase three: create our plan

In this final phase in early 2026, we’ll bring together everything we’ve heard and discovered so far to finalise our plan for the future. With the help of our communities through a deliberative process, we will prioritise what is most important to be implemented in the Strategic Community Plan (Sustainable Stirling 2022 – 2032).

Join the Future Forum to help shape the City’s next chapter. Hosted in early 2026, the Future Forum will bring together key community stakeholders to prioritise the City’s focus over the coming decade and ensure we’re strategic and intentional about our shared future.

Through a deliberative process, we’ll define key focus areas and success measures generated from the first phases of engagement to ensure future performance across all areas in Stirling.

Selected participants will be notified via email after the Community Workshops. This process aims to ensure the diverse perspectives and local knowledge of our community are represented.

FAQs

The Strategic Community Plan (Sustainable Stirling 2022 – 2032) sets out an ambitious and achievable vision for the development of the City over the next 10 years and beyond. This Plan:

  • Establishes the City’s vision for the Local Government’s future, including aspirations and service expectations
  • Elaborates on how to achieve the City’s vision by clearly defining key result areas, objectives and strategies, along with measures of progress
  • Describes the City’s commitments

The Integrated Planning and Reporting Advisory Standard requires the Strategic Community Plan to be developed or modified through engagement with the community.

Sustainable Stirling 2022 – 2032:

  • Provides an overview of emerging priorities following the major review
  • Describes the 10-year vision for the future and the City’s mission, values and commitment to sustainable integrated planning, measurement and reporting
  • Identifies some of the key State and Federal plans and policies that will shape the City’s future.

The Strategic Community Plan is considered a 'live' document, subject to a desktop review every two years and a full review every four years.

Community engagement is recognised as a critical component in the development of a Strategic Community Plan. According to the Department of Local Government: ‘The community engagement strategy adopted by a local government will aim to capture a community’s vision, aspirations, and service expectations for inclusion in the Strategic Community Plan.’

Engagement helps identify long-term goals and priorities, ensuring that the plan is developed or modified through meaningful community engagement with the community.

Future Stirling is your opportunity to get involved in meaningful, two-way conversations about what you want Council to focus on over the coming decade.

All activities will be posted as events and available on your local suburb page along with this project page, throughout the engagement.
