Beaufort Street gets a glow-up with hundreds of LED lights welcoming visitors to the City of Stirling

“This is another positive outcome for the Mount Lawley Town Centre after the City’s streetscape improvements along Beaufort Street in recent years,” Mayor Mark Irwin said.
Beaufort Street is shining brighter than ever after a $200,000 lighting upgrade that has added extra colour and sparkle to the heart of Mount Lawley.
A canopy of 750 colour-changing LED bulbs now spans the width of Beaufort Street near Walcott Street, creating a stunning aerial entry statement to the City of Stirling.
The project was officially launched on Thursday evening by City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin and the Federal Member for Perth, Patrick Gorman MP.
The lighting installation aims to enhance the village-like identity of Beaufort Street, draw more people to the area and support the local economy.
The City collaborated on the project with Perth businesses Sage Consulting Engineers, Aura Lighting and Greenlite Electrical, delivering a programmable web of lights capable of colour blending and motion effects.
Visitors can see the lights in full flight every night with light shows at 7.00pm, 8.00pm and 9.00pm.
A suspended lighting structure was identified as an action through the Mount Lawley Streetscape Study, endorsed by Council in July 2020.
The Federal Government committed $200,000 to the project in the lead-up to the 2022 Federal election, delivered through the Investing in Our Communities Program.
Mr Gorman said the feature lighting would boost visitation and economic activity along one of Perth’s iconic heritage strips.
“Beaufort Street sits at the heart of the Perth community and is an iconic part of our streetscape,” Mr Gorman said.
“This is a central spot for Perth locals and visitors alike to gather and support some fantastic local businesses.
“Local families know that making our streets safe and bright at night opens up a world of possibility when it comes to family-friendly participation in our community’s nightlife.”
Mayor Mark Irwin said the lighting upgrade would have a range of benefits, from supporting local businesses to creating a space that can be customised to reflect local or global events.
It comes after several other streetscape improvement projects in the area, including lighting and CCTV upgrades within Astor Lane and Beaucott Lane, a new parklet, mural artworks, customised light pole upgrades and tree planting within the Beaufort Street median.
“This is another positive outcome for the Mount Lawley Town Centre after the City’s streetscape improvements along Beaufort Street in recent years,” Mayor Irwin said.
“Our community is passionate about this area retaining its unique sense of place – and this project only adds to its creative and vibrant charm.
“I want to thank the Member for Perth, Patrick Gorman MP, and the Federal Government for making this project possible and for their ongoing support of our community.”
The launch of the project coincided with the City’s first Business Brews community engagement session, held across the City to identify priorities for businesses as the City undertakes a major review of its Sustainable Stirling 2022-2032 Strategic Community Plan.
Feedback from Business Brews will feed directly into the City’s Future Insights Survey and shape what the City focuses on over the coming decade.
