Local laws are rules that help local governments manage activities within their community. They are a form of legislation created under the Local Government Act 1995.

Whenever a local law is proposed, amended, or reviewed, we invite the community to provide feedback for consideration in the rules that can affect daily life in our local area.

FAQs

The City is required to make a local law in accordance with a statutory process detailed in the Local Government Act 1995.

Yes. Whenever Council proposes to create, amend or review a local law, the City must advertise it for minimum legal periods. This ensures the community can contribute and be part of the local law-making process.

All submissions are reviewed by the City and included in a report to Council. Council will then decide whether to make the local law as advertised or with minor amendments. If significant changes are required, the City may need to restart the local law‑making process.
