City invites community feedback on proposed changes to Local Government Property Law

26 March 2026

The City of Stirling is seeking community feedback on proposed changes to its Local Government Property Local Law, designed to help the City appropriately manage activities on local government property across the district.

The proposed changes include updated and new definitions to improve clarity, restrictions or permit requirements for certain activities, and provisions that enable the City to determine which activities can occur on local government property, including riding a bicycle, wheeled recreational device, sand board or similar.

As part of the amendments, the City is also proposing to prescribe the following parks and reserves as areas where fishing or fishing activities would be prohibited:

  • Roselea Lake
  • Princeton Lake
  • Talia Lake
  • Herdsman Lake (City controlled)
  • Jackadder Lake
  • Lake Gwelup
  • Careniup Wetland
  • Carine Regional Open Space
  • Potenza Reserve
  • Stirling Civic Gardens
  • Dog Swamp Reserve
  • Shearwater Spoonbill Reserve
  • Cedric Grebe Reserve
  • Dianella Regional Open Space
  • Yokine Regional Open Space
  • Lilac Shannon Reserve
  • Mettams Pool.

The City encourages residents to review the proposed Local Government Property Amendment Local Law 2026 and share feedback before 14 May 2026 by visiting www.stirling.wa.gov.au/newlocallaws. Community feedback will help inform whether the local law amendment should be progressed.
