Future Yokine

Yokine is shaping a future driven by growth, diversity, and urban convenience – a suburb known for its proximity to the CBD and evolving community character.
By 2035, Yokine’s population is forecast to reach 14,675 – an 8% increase, reflecting strong and steady growth. With an average age of 38, matching the City average, the suburb is home to a balanced and active population: 83% of households are couple families, and 38% have children. 40% of homes are privately rented, supporting a flexible and inclusive housing mix. Yokine also features a greater mix of housing types, with four out of ten homes being stand-alone dwellings – offering accessible living options that suit a wide range of lifestyles.
To cater for this growth, urban transformation in Yokine presents an opportunity to create a more connected, sustainable, and liveable suburb. Encouraging more people to live closer to jobs and transport delivers better amenities, more diverse housing options, and safer, greener streets.
Moving forward, preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy will set out the intent and objectives for land use planning in response to changes in population, housing, businesses, employment, transport, community facilities and infrastructure.
“Yokine is a suburb that blends convenience with community,” Deputy Mayor Suzanne Migdale said.
“We’re proud of its diversity and focused on shaping a future that’s inclusive and well-connected.”
Liveability in Yokine is rated positively, with 81% of residents satisfied with life in the area, and connectivity emerging as the top-performing attribute. 57% of residents report a sense of belonging, and traffic calming has been identified as a key focus for the future.
“We’re listening to residents and working to improve the issues they identify,” Councillor Joe Ferrante said.
“Our goal is to support a suburb that’s ready for growth while enhancing its community feel.”
