Future Karrinyup

Karrinyup is shaping a future rooted in balance and beauty – a suburb admired for its clean streets, safe environment, and generous public spaces.
By 2035, Karrinyup’s population is forecast to reach 12,224 – a 13% increase that reflects its strong appeal to families and long-term residents. With an average age of 41, the suburb is home to a well-established community: 88% of households are couple families, and 53% have children. Just 18% of homes are privately rented, and 9 out of 10 are stand-alone dwellings – reinforcing Karrinyup’s reputation as a spacious, family-friendly neighbourhood.
To cater for this growth, urban transformation in Karrinyup presents an opportunity to create a more connected, sustainable, and liveable suburb. Encouraging more people to live closer to jobs and transport delivers better amenities, more diverse housing options, and safer, greener streets.
Moving forward, preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy will set out the intent and objectives for land use planning in response to changes in population, housing, businesses, employment, transport, community facilities and infrastructure.
“Karrinyup is a suburb that offers the best of both worlds – natural beauty and modern convenience,” Councillor Chris Hatton said.
“It’s a place where families grow, and the community continues to evolve with care, and we’re committed to listening to all groups,” Councillor Tony Krsticevic added.
Liveability in Karrinyup is rated highly, with 86% of residents satisfied with life in the area and the amount of public space emerging as a top-performing attribute. A strong 68% of residents report a sense of belonging, and roads and traffic management have been identified as a key focus for the future.
“We’re engaging with the community to ensure Karrinyup’s future reflects its values,” Councillor Rob Paparde said.
“We’re planning for a suburb that reflects the voices of our community – because when we listen, the future becomes even more exciting,” Councillor Karlo Perkov added.
