Future Woodlands

23 July 2025

Woodlands is shaping a future inspired by its peace and friendliness – a well-established suburb known for its strong family presence.

By 2035, Woodlands’ population is forecast to reach 6,143 – a 25% increase, reflecting significant growth and rising appeal. With an average age of 44, above the City average of 38, the suburb is home to a mature and settled community: 86% of households are couple families, and 52% have children. Just 18% of homes are privately rented, and 47% are owned outright, the highest rate in the City. Woodlands also features a higher-than-average number of stand-alone dwellings, with seven out of ten homes offering spacious, independent living.

Moving forward, preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy will set out the intent and objectives for land use planning in response to changes in population, housing, businesses, employment, transport, community facilities and infrastructure.

Liveability in Woodlands is rated highly, with 87% of residents satisfied with life in the area, and connectivity emerging as the top-performing attribute.

“Woodlands is a suburb where families thrive and neighbours feel like friends,” Councillor Elizabeth Re said.

“We’re excited about a future that keeps our tree-lined trees and peaceful environment.”

A strong 70% of residents report a sense of belonging, and traffic calming has been identified as the top local focus for the future.

“Preserving the calm and safety of Woodlands is important,” Councillor Stephanie Proud said.

“We’re working with the community to listen and provide the future they want.”
