Future Stirling

23 July 2025

Stirling is preparing for a future rooted in connectivity and enterprise – known as a clean, green and friendly neighbourhood.

By 2035, Stirling’s population is forecast to reach 12,092 – an 11% increase that reflects its appeal to families and long-term residents. With an average age of 42, above the City average of 38, the suburb is home to a well-established community: 89% of households are couple families, and 49% have children. Just 15% of homes are privately rented, contributing to a stable and engaged population. Stirling stands out for its business activity, with 1,096 businesses – reflecting a thriving local economy.

Moving forward, preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy will set out the intent and objectives for land use planning in response to changes in population, housing, businesses, employment, transport, community facilities and infrastructure.

“We’re always looking for ways to create greener streets and better public spaces to support a healthy, sustainable future for Stirling,” Councillor Lisa Thornton said.

Liveability in Stirling is rated positively, with 78% of residents satisfied with life in the area and connectivity emerging as a top-performing attribute. Locals benefit from easy access to services and transport that support a balanced lifestyle.

“Stirling is a suburb where families and businesses thrive side by side,” Councillor Teresa Olow said.

“We’re proud of its clean streets, strong community, and the opportunities it offers for growth.”

A strong 70% of residents report a sense of belonging, while greening has been identified as a key focus for the future, with tree canopy coverage sitting at 7.5%.
