Future Osborne Park

23 July 2025

Osborne Park is shaping a future built on accessibility and adaptability – a well-connected suburb known for its mix of housing, youthful energy, and growing sense of community.

By 2035, Osborne Park’s population is forecast to reach 5,250 – a 4% increase that reflects its steady appeal to couples, renters, and young families. With an average age of 34, younger than the City average of 38, the suburb is home to a dynamic population: 83% of households are couple families, and 32% have children. 55% of homes are privately rented, supporting flexibility and affordability. Osborne Park also features the third-highest proportion of semi-detached townhouses in the City (58%), offering a modern, low-maintenance lifestyle that suits a range of residents.

To cater for this growth, urban transformation in Osborne Park presents an opportunity to create a more connected, sustainable, and liveable suburb. Encouraging more people to live closer to jobs and transport delivers better amenities, more diverse housing options, and safer, greener streets.

Moving forward, preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy will set out the intent and objectives for land use planning in response to changes in population, housing, businesses, employment, transport, community facilities and infrastructure.

“Osborne Park is evolving in exciting ways,” Councillor Teresa Olow said.

“Its housing diversity and central location make it a great place to live, and we’re planning for a future that builds on those strengths.”

Osborne Park is rated highly for liveability, with 78% of residents satisfied and connectivity noted as a key strength. A sense of belonging is reported by 70%, while a top local focus is greening, with tree canopy coverage sitting at 3.5%. The City is exploring land acquisitions to expand public open space.

“We’re always listening to the community and delivering on our promises,” Councillor Lisa Thornton said.

“And investing in greener streets, better public spaces, and a more sustainable future for everyone in Osborne Park.”
