Future North Beach

23 July 2025

North Beach is shaping a community-focused future – known for its friendly atmosphere, generous public spaces, and strong local spirit.

By 2035, North Beach’s population is forecast to reach 4,084 – a 4% increase that reflects its steady appeal to families and long-term residents. With an average age of 44, above the City average of 38, the suburb is home to a well-established community: 87% of households are couple families, and 41% have children. 29% of homes are privately rented, contributing to a balanced and inclusive neighbourhood. A standout feature is North Beach’s high volunteering rate of 20%, reflecting a strong culture of giving back and community involvement.

Moving forward, preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy will set out the intent and objectives for land use planning in response to changes in population, housing, businesses, employment, transport, community facilities and infrastructure.

Liveability in North Beach is rated highly, with 86% of residents satisfied with life in the area and the amount of public space emerging as a top-performing attribute.

“North Beach is a place where people feel connected – to nature, to neighbours, and to the community,” Councillor Tony Krsticevic said.

“We’re proud of its peaceful character and committed to preserving what makes it special.”

A strong 68% of residents report a sense of belonging, and roads and traffic management have been identified as a key focus for the future.

“North Beach’s future will be shaped by the people who care deeply about it,” Councillor Rob Paparde said.

“We’re working with the community to ensure growth supports safety, accessibility, and quality of life.”
