Future Hamersley

Hamersley is evolving with calm strength – a suburb known for its greenery, peaceful streets, and strong sense of place.
By 2035, Hamersley’s population is forecast to reach 6,041 – a 9% increase that reflects its enduring appeal. With an average age of 39, the suburb is home to many settled families: 84% of households are couple families, and 44% have children. Just 16% of homes are privately rented, and 9 out of 10 are stand-alone dwellings – reinforcing Hamersley’s reputation as a spacious, family-oriented neighbourhood. Its pioneering cul-de-sac design was the first of its kind in the region and has since influenced many northern corridor subdivisions.
“Hamersley has always been a suburb that leads by example,” Councillor Chris Hatton said.
“Its design, its community, and its green spaces all contribute to a lifestyle that people value.”
Moving forward, preparation of a new Local Planning Strategy will set out the intent and objectives for land use planning in response to changes in population, housing, businesses, employment, transport, community facilities and infrastructure.
Liveability in Hamersley is rated highly, with 86% of residents satisfied with life in the area and connectivity emerging as a top-performing attribute. While 59% of residents report a sense of belonging, there’s an opportunity to strengthen ties through a shared local focus which includes creation of business opportunities.
“We’re focused on helping Hamersley grow in ways that reflect its character,” Councillor Karlo Perkov said.
“This support is key to keeping the community vibrant and connected.”
