Creative + Connections returns with inspiring 'Thinking BIG' series

Creatives + Connections provides a welcoming space for local artists, creatives and community members to connect and learn from industry professionals in the arts.
The City of Stirling’s Creatives + Connections program is back from June to August with an exciting new series designed to spark creativity, conversation and collaboration.
Now in its third year, Creatives + Connections provides a welcoming space for local artists, creatives and community members to connect and learn from industry professionals in the arts. This year’s theme, Thinking BIG, invites participants to explore how bold ideas, persistence and innovation can elevate creative practices and turn ambitions into reality.
Through a curated series of events, the City will host three Western Australian artists who have each made a mark on the arts landscape.
Sam Bloor
The series kicks off with Sam Bloor, a multidisciplinary artist and former signwriter whose artworks play with and illuminate meaning in language. Renowned for his impactful text-based works and large-scale public murals, Sam shares how determination, networking, and creative risk-taking have helped him leave his mark on everything from Ferris wheel carriages to gallery walls.
Sunday 22 June | 2.30pm – 4.30pm | Stirling Leisure – Scarborough Beach Community Centre
Erin Coates
Next up is Erin Coates, a creative powerhouse whose career spans nearly 20 years. Working across drawing, sculpture and film, Erin also brings experience as a curator, writer, producer and lecturer. Her session offers a rare insight into building a diverse and sustainable arts practice in Boorloo (Perth), that transcends disciplines and industries.
Sunday 27 July | 2.30pm – 4.30pm | Stirling Leisure – Scarborough Beach Community Centre
Sohan Ariel Hayes
Rounding out the program is artist and animator Sohan Ariel Hayes, whose immersive installations have captivated audiences across Australia. Known for storytelling on a monumental scale, Sohan’s work blends art, technology and cultural narratives to produce transformative experiences. Attendees will explore how he uses collaboration and innovation to bring complex stories to life in public spaces.
Sunday 24 August | 2.30pm – 4.30pm | Stirling Leisure – Scarborough Beach Community Centre
Each event in the Thinking BIG series offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from artists about the challenges, breakthroughs and collaborations that have defined their careers.
