06 June 2025

This session explores the difficult journeys of those forced to flee, the global systems that shape their futures, and the challenges they face in seeking safety and rebuilding their lives in Australia.

In the lead-up to Refugee Week 2025, the City invites the community to take part in an engaging and thought-provoking event that fines a light on the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers.

Held at Stirling Libraries – Karrinyup on Wednesday 11 June from 12.30 – 1.30pm, this session will explore the complex journeys of those forced to flee their homes, the global systems that shape their fates, and the challenges they face when seeking safety and rebuilding their lives in Australia.

Presented in collaboration with the Red Cross, the session will cover a range of key topics, including:

  • The Red Cross’ humanitarian work in the migration space
  • Global forced displacement and international human rights framework
  • Australia’s role in the global refugee landscape
  • The legal and practical distinctions between asylum seekers
  • The demographics of humanitarian settlement in Australia and the lived experiences of those resettled.

This session offers attendees the chance to broaden understanding and reflect on how we can create a more inclusive and compassionate society. It’s a meaningful opportunity to explore real-life stories and learn how local communities can better support people from refugee backgrounds.
