A $1 million town square transformation is set to give Mirrabooka residents a welcoming and colourful space at the heart of their community.

A $1 million town square transformation is set to give Mirrabooka residents a welcoming and colourful space at the heart of their community.

Mirrabooka Town Square is centrally located on Sudbury Road, between the Mirrabooka Bus Station and The Square Mirrabooka shopping centre.

The City has collaborated closely with local residents on plans for an upgrade to the area, which has unfulfilled potential as a community space and meeting place.

The works started this week, with the square expected to be reopened to the public by the end of August 2025.

Plans include new native trees and plants, public art installations, bench seating, upgraded lighting and a wooden deck connected to the new Dome café.

A Nyoongar artist will produce vibrant designs to be printed on large shade sails to welcome people to the town square.

There will be three wood carvings, including a large climbable carving near a group of stepping stones for children.

The diverse community of Mirrabooka will be represented by artworks painted on 30 bollards along Sudbury Road, in partnership with students from Boyare Primary School.

City of Stirling Council allocated $1 million to the Mirrabooka Town Square upgrade in the 2024/25 annual budget as part of an ongoing effort to revitalise the Mirrabooka Town Centre.

“The Mirrabooka Town Square has a lot of potential and these improvements will help it realise that potential,” Mayor Mark Irwin said.

“We’ve spoken to local residents and we know they want a space that feels safer, greener and cooler.

“This upgrade will deliver on those key points and create a more welcoming central meeting place for the Mirrabooka community.”

The town square works are part of a broader push to revitalise the centre of Mirrabooka as outlined in the City’s Mirrabooka Town Activity Centre Plan.

The City has recently secured proponents, pending settlement, for the purchase and development of two vacant lots on Milldale Way.

The development of these lots will represent a key milestone and a catalyst for the activation of the town centre.

Last week, Council voted in favour of creating a 3m-wide shared path along Mirrabooka Avenue, from Beach Road to Reid Highway, with the Federal Government set to contribute half of the project cost.

Perth Glory will soon relocate to Mirrabooka, basing its administration and training activities at Stirling Leisure – Mirrabooka and becoming a valued stakeholder in the community.
