Temporary North Beach Jetty access ramp closures for coastal works

The North Beach Jetty access ramp will be temporarily closed to allow for essential coastal protection works.
The City of Stirling recognises the importance of maintaining accessible walkways and coastal access points, and appreciates the community’s understanding as these necessary improvements are undertaken.
Rock armouring will be carried out to safeguard the jetty access ramp from ongoing coastal erosion. This process involves positioning large limestone boulders to absorb wave energy, providing a natural defence against ocean forces.
To facilitate the work, an excavator will be lifted onto the beach via a crane. Crane/excavator lift works are scheduled to take place on the night of 15 May 2025 (between 11.30 pm to 6.00 am) and will require the closure of West Coast Drive (northbound). Traffic management will be in place. The excavator will be onsite during the works.
The works are expected to be completed by mid-June. During this time, a small area of North Beach will be closed. The jetty and the dog beach to the north will remain open and accessible using an alternative path from the West Coast Drive car park.
These protective works are being undertaken in alignment with City’s Coastal Hazard and Risk Management and Adaptation Planning (CHRMAP) obligations, adopted by Council in August 2023.
