"Winning the MobileMuster Top Collector for WA once again validates the concrete steps we’ve taken to create a sustainable City for our community," Deputy Mayor Migdale said.

The City of Stirling has won the MobileMuster Top Collector Award for WA for the fourth straight year, cementing its status as the state’s leading local government for the collection of mobile phones and accessories.

MobileMuster is a free Federal Government-accredited mobile phone recycling program managed to the highest environmental standard by the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA).

The award was presented to City of Stirling CEO Stevan Rodic at the Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly in June.

The City secured the top collector title by collecting 700kg of mobile phone components in the past financial year, comprised of 490kg of handsets, 154kg of batteries and 56kg of accessories.

The City has been named MobileMuster’s top collector for WA nine times since joining the program.

Deputy Mayor Suzanne Migdale said the City’s continued national recognition demonstrated its commitment to sustainability.

“Winning the MobileMuster Top Collector for WA once again validates the concrete steps we’ve taken to create a sustainable City for our community,” Deputy Mayor Migdale said.

“We diverted 4,452 phones from landfill through the MobileMuster program this year, which has an equivalent environmental benefit of planting 29 trees.

“This is an incredible result for our Waste and Recycling team that aligns with our vision of a sustainable City with a local focus.”

The Sustainable Stirling 2022-2042 Strategic Community Plan sets the objective of being a waste-wise City. Mobile phones can be brought to the Recycling Centre Balcatta free of charge.

The City of Stirling also offers an on-demand waste collection service which gives residents access to one free e-waste collection service per financial year, per property for larger e-waste items such as computers, televisions, printers and scanners – visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au/ondemand for more information.
