Residents and ratepayers from across the community are encouraged to speak up for Stirling and help shape the future by running for Council.

The City of Stirling is WA’s largest local government by population, home to almost 250,000 residents across seven wards with a diverse mix of cultures, lifestyles and opportunities.

Councillors play a vital leadership role at the City, setting the strategic direction of the organisation and working together to deliver the community’s vision of a sustainable City with a local focus.

Seven Council seats will be contested this year – one in each ward – with local government elections set to take place on Saturday 18 October.

Candidate nominations opened today and close at 4.00pm on Thursday 4 September.

"If you’re passionate about where you live, serving on Council is one of the most effective and rewarding ways that you can get involved at the local level," City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said.

"It gives you the opportunity to address the issues that are important to your community and the responsibility of making decisions that can impact hundreds of thousands of people.

"As always, we want our Council to be representative of our diverse City, so I would urge people of all ages and backgrounds to consider nominating.

"We have a fantastic group of Councillors at the City but we are always looking for new leaders to step up and help us shape the future."

To nominate as a candidate, you must be an Australian citizen aged 18 years or over who occupies or owns a rateable property in the City.
