Proposal to permanently close Tyler St and Cape St intersection

The City is inviting community feedback on a proposal to permanently close the intersection of Tyler Street and Cape Street in Tuart Hill.
After concerns were raised about pedestrian safety, the City consulted with residents in September 2025 on a proposed trial closure. A letter was sent to 570 residents, and 193 responses were received. Of these, 81 per cent supported the proposal.
In November 2025, Council endorsed a minimum three-month trial. The trial period allowed the City to monitor traffic changes on surrounding streets and gauge community feedback for a permanent closure.
To align with the start of the school year, the trial began in January 2026. A report summarising community feedback and traffic impacts will be presented to Council to help determine whether the intersection should be permanently closed.
Community feedback will help inform Council’s decision, and everyone who lodges a submission will be kept updated on the outcome.
