It’s game on in Balga and Nollamara as new floodlights give sporting clubs a brighter future

“Our clubs are the lifeblood of our community so it’s always fantastic to see them get better facilities,” City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said.
New floodlights have been switched on at two reserves in the City of Stirling’s Balga Ward, giving the community more opportunities to get outside and play.
Princess Wallington Reserve in Balga and Des Penman Reserve in Nollamara have received new lighting through a $1.81 million partnership between the City of Stirling and the State Government.
The previous metal halide lights, which covered parts of the reserves, have been replaced by environmentally friendly LED floodlights covering all sporting fields.
Local sporting clubs will now be able to host night games and train under improved 100 lux lighting this winter.
The upgrades are also the catalyst for an exciting partnership between the City, WA Football, Subiaco Football Club and Perth Football League to increase participation, with a focus on growing local clubs and providing opportunities for females and people from multicultural backgrounds.
“Our clubs are the lifeblood of our community so it’s always fantastic to see them get better facilities,” City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said.
“From Balga Soccer Club at Princess Wallington Reserve to Nollamara Amateur Football Club at Des Penman Reserve, these upgrades will have significant benefits.
"On behalf of the City and the passionate people who run our clubs, I want to thank the State Government for their ongoing investment in community sport and infrastructure.”
The upgraded infrastructure also includes community lighting to enhance safety and allow for recreation when the sports floodlights are switched off.
The project responds to what locals have told the City is important to them, with investment in parks and reserves identified as a local focus in both Balga and Nollamara.
The City delivered the project and contributed $1.21 million, while the State Government contributed over $605,000 through its Club Night Lights Program.
The lighting upgrades come after City delivered clubroom refurbishment projects at both reserves in recent years.
