What actions are being taken to address issues at the Muir Street and Karrinyup Road intersection?

Thank you to everyone that joined us earlier this month at Yuluma Reserve, for the Safety Check and Community BBQ. It was wonderful to partner with the Innaloo Community Association Incorporated to host this event. The strong attendance made a powerful statement about the importance of safety for the local community. All the insights gained from the Safety Check have been recorded.

This month we’ll be providing insights on the Muir St and Karrinyup Rd intersection, which was identified as a top local issue for Innaloo during our Local Convos series as well as a top-voted key question as part of this series.

The Karrinyup Road, Muir Street intersection represents a well used junction within the City of Stirling’s transport network. Karrinyup Road, a major east–west primary distributor carrying over 35,000 vehicles per day and, is controlled and maintained by Main Roads WA. Muir Street, managed by the City of Stirling, functions as a local distributor Road within the Innaloo precinct. Although Muir Street falls under local jurisdiction, the intersection itself is the responsibility of Main Roads WA.

As this is a local priority, the City is committed to working with Main Roads WA in advocating and identifying a solution to improve road safety for the local area.

Main Roads WA is currently investigating potential improvement options to address the issues raised by the community. However, due to the complexity of the road layout and the overall traffic conditions, including obstacles for motorists heading eastbound towards Mitchell Freeway - identifying the most effective response will require careful consideration.

The City commits to providing updates via the Innaloo suburb page as well as through the Innaloo Community Association as they advocate on significant road and traffic matters.

This article is part of the Innaloo Insights series – an initiative responding to your most voted-for questions, following discussions with the moderators of the Innaloo & Surrounds Community Noticeboard Facebook group. Next month we’ll spotlight how the City is addressing the illegal dumping of shopping trolleys.
