Help make our shared paths safer

11 April 2026

Had a close call on a shared path? A blind corner, a poorly placed bollard or a spot that just doesn’t feel safe to use?

What we’ve heard
Community safety continues to be a clear priority for residents. Many people have told us that feeling safe when walking, running or riding is fundamental to everyday life. There is strong support for practical safety improvements, education and proactive initiatives and a strong desire to be involved in shaping safer outcomes for everyone.

What we’re doing
The City delivers a range of community safety initiatives aimed at making our streets and paths safer and more accessible. Most recently, we have partnered with Main Roads WA to support a research project led by the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC) at the University of Western Australia.

The project includes SafePaths, a WA tool designed to improve safety on shared paths

How you can help
Whether you walk, run or ride, SafePaths is a free and anonymous online portal where you can report:

  • Crashes
  • Near misses
  • Locations that feel unsafe
  • Design or behaviour concerns on shared paths across WA.

Submitting a report takes just a few minutes, and every contribution helps. To report an issue or find out more, visit safepaths.au

Why it matters
Reports submitted to SafePaths help researchers identify: high‑risk locations, patterns of unsafe behaviour, gaps or challenges in current shared path design.

All reports are completely anonymous. No personal or identifying information is collected and data is used for research purposes only.

The insights gathered support researchers working alongside government agencies and local councils like the City to improve shared path safety for everyone.

Take action

Together, we can help identify issues early and contribute to safer, more welcoming paths for our community.
