Diamond documentary celebrates music and merriment

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of WA turns 75 this year and has marked the occasion with a special documentary celebrating more than seven decades of music, theatre and laughter.
Dramatist W.S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan collaborated on 14 comic operas between 1871 and 1896, including well-known works The Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. Pinafore and The Mikado.
Founded in 1951, The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of WA has delighted audiences, nurtured local talent and kept the spirit of the Victorian-era theatrical partnership alive in Western Australia ever since.
The society’s Nollamara home has hosted rehearsals for annual productions and choir performances over many decades, as well as housing the vast store of production costumes and library of scores and literature.
Proudly supported by the City’s Community Grants Program, the new documentary brings together current and former luminaries from the society’s rich history to celebrate its remarkable legacy of music and merriment.
