AusAlert national emergency warning system testing

There will be a nationwide test of a new national warning system sent to all mobile phones – even those in silent mode – on Monday 27 July.
AusAlert is a new national warning system coming online in October 2026 that sends emergency messages to mobile devices keeping people informed and prepared during local and national emergencies.
The alerts will be sent directly to mobile phones using a loud siren, vibration and screen flashing, even if devices are on silent.
Before it comes online, AusAlert will be tested in various communities across the country, followed by a nationwide test alert sent to all mobile devices in Australia.
In Western Australia, the nationwide test will be sent at 12.00 noon local time on the day of the test.
Please keep in mind the potential impact for people experiencing family and domestic violence, particularly those who may have a hidden or safety phone.
These alerts can activate without warning and may place someone at risk.
To help minimise this, the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing recommends that one hour before the test or alert: turn your safety devices off OR switch them to aeroplane mode (if you have it).
During and after the test: keep your device off or on aeroplane mode for 24 hours.
Where appropriate, please support people experiencing family and domestic violence to plan ahead and stay safe.
