Who gets your vote? Diverse field of candidates to contest all seven wards in the City of Stirling

A diverse field of 22 candidates will contest the City of Stirling’s 2025 local government elections.
The City is WA’s largest local government by population, home to almost 250,000 people across seven wards and 30 suburbs.
Councillors play a vital leadership role at the City, setting its strategic direction, representing the views and values of their electors, and working together to deliver the community’s vision of a sustainable City with a local focus.
Seven Council seats will be up for grabs at this year’s elections – one in each ward.
With multiple candidates nominating in each ward before the Thursday afternoon deadline, all seven of those seats will be in play on election day.
"I think it’s a sign of a healthy local democracy to have contests in every ward,” Mayor Mark Irwin said.
“It’s a diverse field of candidates for a diverse community, and it’s especially encouraging to see some younger candidates this year.
“The City of Stirling is a leader in the local government sector, with first-rate people, facilities, services and programs.
“We have a community satisfaction rating of 92 per cent and we earn state and national recognition for the work we do – it's not surprising that people want to be part of that.”
While the elections will take place on Saturday 18 October, voting will open later this month when residents and ratepayers receive their packages in the mail.
“Voting in Council elections isn’t compulsory, but it gives you the opportunity to help shape the future of your local area,” Mayor Irwin said.
“The people you have representing you on Council can make a meaningful difference to the area you live in.
“I’d encourage everyone to read up on their local candidates, find out what their priorities are and get involved in grassroots democracy.”
