Surf CAT bus service – construction update

02 December 2025

Changes are coming to the West Coast Highway and Scarborough Beach Road intersection to support the Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) new Surf CAT bus service, which starts running on Sunday 30 November.

The Surf CAT will be a free daily bus service running from Stirling Station along Ellen Stirling Boulevard and Scarborough Beach Road direct to Scarborough Beach – operating up to every 10 minutes during peak periods, from early in the morning to late at night, seven days a week.

To support the new service, two new bus embayments are being installed on West Coast Highway north of Scarborough Beach Road, as well as intersection upgrades including dedicated bus lands and improved pedestrian signals.

Once the upgrades are complete, motorists will no longer be able to turn onto West Coast Highway when exiting the beach precinct.

Construction impacts

Main Roads will be overseeing the roadworks and intersection upgrades necessary for the new service.

Work on the new bus embayments is underway and a temporary bus stop is in place on West Coast Highway for Routes 410 and 412.

Main Roads on building the new bus lanes on Scarborough Beach Road has commenced, with most of the works to be completed between 8.00pm and 6.00am.

This will include out-of-hours asphalting works at the West Coast Highway and Scarborough Beach Road intersection from Thursday 27 November until mid-December, which will require lane closures, speed reductions and detours.

Main Roads will also conduct some minor works during the day on West Coast Highway.

Delays are expected so please allow extra travel time and stay patient on the roads.
