Stirling effort as local golf clubs dominate WA Golf Industry Awards

Mount Lawley Golf Club has enjoyed a golden night at the 2026 WA Golf Industry Awards, taking out five categories, including Metropolitan Golf Course of the Year.
The awards were presented at Optus Stadium on Friday 27 March, where hundreds gathered to celebrate the achievements of clubs, facilities, professionals and volunteers.
Venues and individuals from across the City of Stirling earned recognition at the awards, with Lake Karrinyup Country Club’s David Milne a finalist for PGA WA Coach of the Year – High Performance, Scarborough Ladies Golf Club’s Karen Sloper a finalist for Volunteer of the Year and The Western Australian Golf Club’s General Manager Damien Todorovic receiving Golf Management Australia’s Certified Club Management Qualification Recognition.
The City’s own public golf course, the recently redeveloped Stirling Leisure – Hamersley Public Golf Course, was a finalist for Most Outstanding WA Club, Facility or Place to Play – Metropolitan.
The redevelopment of Stirling Leisure – Hamersley Public Golf Course has received a series of state and national honours since it was completed in December 2024.
But it was Mount Lawley Golf Club that dominated Friday night's awards as finalists in an incredible nine categories and winners of the following five:
- Metropolitan Golf Course of the Year
- Most Outstanding WA Club, Facility or Place to Play – Metropolitan
- WA Environmental Award
- Volunteer of the Year – Tim McAuliffe
- Course Superintendent of the Year – Rod Tatt.
The wins come after a milestone year for the private club, highlighted by the completion of major renovations and its 11th time hosting the WA Open.
“I want to congratulate our team at Stirling Leisure – Hamersley Public Golf Course for being named as finalists at these prestigious awards, but I also want to congratulate the other finalists from across our City,” Mayor Mark Irwin said.
“For Mount Lawley Golf Club to win five categories is a credit to their team – and it makes us proud as a City to be home to the Metropolitan Golf Course of the Year.”
