Perth’s first Youth Step Up/Step Down service announced for Balcatta

Perth’s first Youth Step Up/Step Down service is planned to be built on Morley Drive in Balcatta.
The WA Government announced the location of the 10-bed service on Monday after finalising a ground lease agreement with the City of Stirling.
Step Up/Step Down is a short-term residential care model for people experiencing mental health issues, whether they are stepping up from the community or stepping down from hospital care.
It offers contemporary, therapeutic mental health care to help people manage their changing mental health in a home-like setting close to their family and friends.
The Balcatta facility will be the first Youth Step Up/Step Down service based in the metropolitan area, but it will be available to young people (aged 16-24) from across the state.
It will also offer extra support to help young people transition back to their daily lives by building healthy routines and coping strategies.
Balcatta MLA David Michael, a former City of Stirling Councillor, said the Morley Drive location offered easy access to public transport and local amenities.
“I'm pleased that Balcatta can host such an important service, which highlights the government's commitment to young Western Australians and their mental health,” Mr Michael said.
The Youth Step Up/Step Down service is being delivered with the City’s support.
