Joondanna and Tuart Hill – Urban Road Safety Program

01 August 2025

In collaboration with Main Roads WA, the City is proposing to implement an Urban Road Safety Program in the Joondanna and Tuart Hill area.

Residents in the area will have recently received correspondence from the City, inviting them to share their feedback on the proposal.

A safety review of the area bordered by Royal Street, Wanneroo Road, Green Street and Stoneham Street has revealed a higher-than-average vehicle crash history. Between 2020 and 2024, a total of 139 crashes were recorded, including eight resulting in hospitalisation, 28 requiring medical attention, and 66 causing major property damage (excluding Cape Street).

The proposed program aims to reduce vehicle speeds through an area-wide approach, a proven strategy for enhancing safety by preventing and reducing the severity of traffic-related incidents. Slower vehicle speeds not only improve safety but also create a more attractive and liveable environment, fostering community connections by improving access for pedestrians, cyclists, and those using mobility aids.

Community feedback is an important factor in the decision-making process. Participants will be kept updated on the outcome.

For more details, including a proposed locations map, a detailed explanation of the treatments, and submission lodgement, visit the Roads, traffic and civil works page on the City’s website by Friday 22 August 2025.
