Inglewood Little Athletics Centre off and running at their new home

Inglewood Little Athletics Centre has marked the start of the new season with a celebration at their new home at Yokine Regional Open Space.

With around 500 athletes, Inglewood Little Athletics Centre had outgrown its previous home at Dianella Regional Open Space, where it shared an oval with the Dianella White Eagles Soccer Club.

The move to Yokine, made possible by a $470,000 investment by the City of Stirling, has given the two thriving local clubs more room to grow.

The City completed a range of works to provide a fit-for-purpose facility for Inglewood Little Athletics Centre, relocating a cricket pitch and delivering four concrete throwing circles, a concrete javelin pad, two double-sided long jump pits, a specialised storage shed and more.

Mayor Mark Irwin AM cut the ribbon on the new facilities on Saturday, alongside City of Stirling Councillors Damien Giudici, Daniela Ion and Joe Ferrante and Mount Lawley MLA Frank Paolino.

“When you look at the sheer number of kids involved with Inglewood Little Athletics, it’s clear that the club does a brilliant job and could do with the extra room,” Mayor Irwin said.

“This project was also about making better use of Yokine Regional Open Space, a fantastic community asset where we can expect to see more exciting things happening in the years to come.”

Founded in 1972, Inglewood Little Athletics Centre is one of the oldest and largest little athletics clubs in the state.

Vice-President Amy Eva said the new facilities gave the club more freedom and flexibility.

“It was really exciting for us to see all the planning and discussion come to fruition and to see it all in action,” Ms Eva said.

“We’re really excited about the new space and the opportunities it gives us.”
