Help baby birds spring into life

September is Biodiversity Month, and with spring in full swing, nature is bursting back to life!
Across the City of Stirling, baby birds are beginning their journey into the world, leaving the nest and learning to fly.
It’s common to see fledglings on the ground during this time, but that doesn’t always mean they need help. In fact, sometimes the best help you can give them is simply some space.
If you spot a young bird, take a moment to watch quietly. Is it alert? Moving around? Calling out? Can it hop or flutter? Are its feathers mostly developed?
Chances are, its parents are nearby, keeping an eye on things and continuing to feed it. Intervening too quickly can actually do more harm than good.
Only step in if the bird is clearly injured or in immediate danger. If that’s the case, contact the Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055 or seek advice from one of Perth’s wildlife hospitals.
