Get ready for a day of fun, learning, and community spirit as Hamersley Habitat Community Garden Celebrates its 10th birthday with a special Open Day. On Saturday 29 March from 9.30am to 11.30am, everyone is invited to join the festivities, explore the garden, and take part in a range of exciting activities. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just curious about what’s growing in your neighbourhood, this is the perfect opportunity to discover one of the City’s most loved green spaces.
Established in March 2015, Hamersley Habitat transformed a neglected piece of public land near Warwick Shopping Centre into a thriving community hub. Over the past decade, the garden has flourished into a beautiful space filled with organic, edible, and native garden beds, bringing people together through a shared love of gardening. This milestone event will celebrate the hard work of volunteers who have helped grow the garden into what it is today, while also welcoming new faces who want to get involved.
The free event will feature a range of activities for all ages, including a gardening workshop on seed saving, propagating cuttings, and crafting origami seed envelopes. Visitors can enjoy a delicious morning tea and grab a coffee with a BYO mug, while kids can take part in hands-on activities supported by Bunnings. There will also be a plant sale with a variety of greenery available for purchase, and those interested in joining the garden can chat with members about getting involved.
Register now for the Seed Saving and Propagation Workshop as part of the Hamersley Habitat celebrations.
The City of Stirling proudly supports seven community gardens, each managed by passionate volunteers. These gardens provide a space for growing food, learning about sustainability, and connecting with neighbours. In the 2023/24 financial year the City’s community gardens saw 192 members, a busy events calendar, hosting nearly 250 busy bees, workshops, open day events and gardening events with over 2,200 community participants.
If you’ve ever thought about joining a community garden, now is the perfect time! Visit stirling.wa.gov.au/communitygardens to find a garden near you and become part of a growing movement.
