Growing greener suburbs

01 April 2026

Residents are invited to a free community workshop exploring how greener suburbs can help protect WA’s iconic black cockatoos on Saturday 18 April.

Urban Greening and Black Cockatoos will be held from 9.00am – 12.30pm at Stirling Leisure – Scarborough Community Centre.

Urbanist Simon Blackwell will explain the benefits of urban greening for cooling suburbs, improving liveability and creating habitat.

After morning tea, Dr Christine Groom, author of Creating Black Cockatoo Friendly Suburbs, will share insights into the challenges facing black cockatoos and how everyday gardens and streetscapes can help support their survival.

The workshop includes Q&A sessions and practical take home ideas. Places are limited and bookings are essential.
