Election result a ‘vote of confidence’ from City of Stirling community

20 October 2025

Six incumbent Councillors have been returned to their seats and one new voice added to Council in an election result City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin described as a “vote of confidence from the community”.

A total of 22 candidates nominated for this year’s election, putting their hands up to help shape the future of Stirling, Western Australia’s largest local government by population.

Councillors play a vital leadership role at the City, setting its strategic direction, representing the views and values of their electors, and working together to deliver the community’s vision of a sustainable City with a local focus.

With multiple candidates in each of the City's seven wards, all seven of the available seats were in play when the vote count started on Saturday 18 October.

“I want to congratulate everyone who ran for Council this year because our community needs people who are willing to step up and lead,” Mayor Irwin said.

“We had a diverse group of candidates, with different backgrounds and a range of ages, which is exactly what you want to see.”

The six returning Councillors are Andrea Creado in Balga Ward, Tony Krsticevic in Coastal Ward, Elizabeth Re in Doubleview Ward, Karlo Perkov in Hamersley Ward, Suzanne Migdale in Lawley Ward and Teresa Olow in Osborne Ward.

In Inglewood Ward, small business owner and lawyer Daniela Ion won a close contest on preferences over incumbent David Lagan, who had held his seat since 2011.

The seven Councillor-elects will be sworn in at a Special Council Meeting at the City on Thursday 23 October, where Council will elect a Deputy Mayor.

“To have most of our Councillors returned to their seats is a fantastic endorsement of the Council’s efforts and a vote of confidence from the community,” Mayor Irwin said.

“I look forward to working with Daniela Ion, who is passionate about her community and will bring a fresh perspective to Council.

“I also want to thank David Lagan for his significant commitment and contribution to Inglewood Ward and the City over the past 14 years.

“Now that the community has put their trust in us, we need to continue working hard to deliver the first-rate services and programs they expect.

“We have some exciting projects in the pipeline and I’m looking forward to getting stuck back into it.”
