Design work underway for proposed coastal boardwalk

Work on the next phase of the proposed Scarborough-Trigg Coastal Boardwalk is now underway, with consulting firm GHD appointed to deliver the 15 per cent design and associated environmental and planning approvals work.
This phase is expected to be completed by 30 June 2027.
The 15 per cent design will refine the concept based on community and stakeholder feedback from the 2025 consultation, which received 2,499 verified submissions with 70 per cent supporting the proposed boardwalk.
It will also refine cost estimates, detail how the boardwalk could be built and ensure it aligns with expectations.
As part of feasibility investigations, a detailed flora, vegetation and fauna survey of the South Trigg Beach Reserve was undertaken in spring 2025, the optimal season for flora surveys on the Swan Coastal Plain. It builds on previous environmental research carried out in autumn 2025. The spring survey report is available on the City’s website.
Consistent with the 25 November 2025 Council resolution, on completion of 15 per cent design and with refined project costs, the City will seek external funding. The project will not progress beyond this phase unless external funding is secured.
