Balga Ward Councillors Michael Dudek and Andrea Creado attended the launch of new floodlights at Fragrant Gardens Reserve in Mirrabooka alongside Mayor Mark Irwin and Minister Meredith Hammat MLA and Member for Girrawheen. The new lighting allows for night match play for community level football and soccer and can be dimmed to training levels as needed, supporting the relocation of Northern City Football Club to their new home grounds. The infrastructure upgrade was jointly funded by the City and the State Government.
Two public artworks have been installed as part of the Mirrabooka Town Square redevelopment, which is nearing completion. Local artists Marisa Santosa and Iwan Isnin painted decorative bollards, while Daniel Iley created wood carvings of native animals.
Also in the ward, Stirling Leisure – Balga received an upgrade with the official opening of its new outdoor sauna, while Council recently approved a proposal to run a two-year trial of bulk waste verge collections in Balga, Mirrabooka, Nollamara and Westminster, starting in July 2026.
The City has been making the most of the cool, wet weather by rolling out a range of planting programs in the Balga Ward to connect green spaces and create biodiversity corridors.
