Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS)

Funded by the Australian Government, the City is pleased to be part of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme. This program utilises volunteers to provide social connections for people living in residential aged care facilities within the City of Stirling. These friendly, regular visits from volunteers enable people who are socially isolated, lonely or have no family nearby to enjoy quality social time and create lasting friendships.

If you are interested in becoming part of this program, please contact the City and ask to speak to the Volunteer Services.

Environmental volunteers

Do you want to meet like-minded people, be part of a friendly and passionate community and contribute to caring for your local environment?

Conservation Volunteers are members of the community who work closely with the City in the restoration and management of our natural areas. Conservation Volunteers help with tasks such as planting, weeding, watering, clean-ups and conservation surveys.

We have a number of Conservation Volunteering groups in the City of Stirling. These groups help conserve local bush, wetland and coastal areas.

If you would like to become a Conservation Volunteer, register your interest by contacting one of the groups below. Alternatively, if you would like to register your own Conservation Volunteer Group please contact the Natural Areas team via the Customer Enquiry and Feedback Form.

We support a number of community gardens across the City of Stirling, each managed by dedicated local volunteers. These gardens vary in style and purpose, some focus on growing fresh produce like vegetables and fruit, while others showcase native bush plants, including bush tucker species, creating welcoming green spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Community gardens may be located on City-managed land or private property, and many host events and workshops for both garden members and the wider community. If you’re interested in joining a community garden, please contact one of the groups listed below.

The City’s nursery, located at Stirling Leisure - Hamersley Public Golf Course, plays a vital role in growing native plants for local parks, streets, reserves and revegetation projects.

Volunteers are welcome to join the nursery team and assist with tasks such as seed propagation, potting, and plant care. It’s a great opportunity to learn about native flora and contribute to local environmental sustainability projects.

For more information, lodge a general enquiry, directed to the Nursery Supervisor.

Why volunteer in nature?

Get inspired by the voices of our local volunteers in this short video series, where representatives from our Friends Of groups and Community Gardens share what motivates them, why volunteering matters, and how connecting with nature and community brings joy and purpose to their lives.

From planting trees to supporting local events, these stories highlight the many ways you can make a difference.
