The City of Stirling has two advisory groups made up of members of the community and who meet on a semi-regular basis.

Advisory groups

This group works with the City improve access and inclusion for people of all abilities.

The group includes:

  • Community members with and without disability
  • Staff from local disability service organisations
  • City of Stirling staff.

Together, the group provides advice to help make the City more accessible and inclusive, and guide projects, policies and plans that support people with disability.

Members are appointed for two years, in line with local government elections.

Who can join?

The City welcomes people who:

  • Care about access and inclusion
  • Live or work in the City of Stirling
  • Can work respectfully with others
  • Have lived experience, knowledge or skills in disability or inclusion
  • Can attend meetings every two months (meetings may be outside of normal business hours).

You don’t need to be an expert; we value lived experience and ideas.

Responsible for planning and testing local emergency management arrangements.

It comprises representatives from various agencies and community groups such as the WA Police, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and the Red Cross. Council appoints community members to the Local Emergency Management Committee for a two-year period in-line wtih local government elections.

Meetings take place on the third Friday in February, May, August and November at 8.00am.

Working groups

The City also has a number of Working Groups that assist in the development and implementation of key projects and initiatives.

  • Crime Prevention Working Group
  • Cycling Working Group
  • Environment Working Group
  • Road Safety Working Group.

Working groups operates on an informal, as needed basis and formal minutes are not required. 

Stirling Cultural Champions

Stirling Cultural Champions

The Stirling Cultural Champions are a working group that collaborates with the City of Stirling to help achieve identified goals. 

The Stirling Cultural Champions represents an array of backgrounds, including communities from India, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Ukraine, Somalia, Eritrea, Kenya, Mexico, Brazil, Myanmar, Jordan, China, Malaysia, and South Sudan.

The Stirling Cultural Champions actively support the City’s multicultural community by building strong partnerships with local multicultural communities and supporting programs to provide information and connections.

The aims and objectives of the group are:

  • To achieve shared goals through fostering an inclusive and diverse community within the City of Stirling
  • To address unique challenges and be responsive to the needs and aspirations of multicultural communities
  • To provide valuable feedback and suggestions to the City on programs, services and plans which support multicultural communities
  • Support and advice on partnerships with relevant stakeholders to accomplish the objectives of the Stirling Cultural Champions and the City of Stirling.

The Stirling Cultural Champions’ key role is to provide feedback and suggestions to the City and collaborate with staff. Champions will also help to communicate relevant City of Stirling information to their communities.
