The Great Global Mend

Got a jacket with a broken zip, jeans with a split knee, or a shirt missing a button? Bring it along and give it a new lease on life at The Great Global Mend. What is The Great Global Mend? The Great Global Mend encourages people to come together and repair textiles, whether that's hand sewing, darning, using FabPatch, or machine mending. At 11:00am, all participating locations across Australia conduct a headcount of people actively repairing, contributing to an (unofficial) world record attempt for the most people mending simultaneously. No sewing experience is required.

This is a relaxed, social event focused on:

• Bringing the community together
• Sharing skills and learning new techniques
• Encouraging waste reduction and textile reuse
• Finally fixing that long-overdue button, seam or zip.

What you'll get out of the event

• Meet friendly, like-minded people
• Pick up practical tips for caring for and maintaining your garments.

What's included

• All repair materials and supplies provided
• Bring your own sewing kit if you prefer to use your own equipment
• Access to four sewing machines and support from experienced menders
• Sashiko mending expertise and guidance for visible repair techniques.

Special guests

We're pleased to welcome Angela from Sew Impressed, who will be available throughout the event to assist with repairs using four sewing machines.

We'll also be joined by Danna from Danji Moto Designs, who will host two mini-workshops showcasing simple sashiko mending and hand-repair techniques that can be quickly learned and applied to your own repairs on the day.
